Clare's House

About Us

Clare’s House is a non-profit organization founded on love and the desire keep pets and their people where they belong–together. Funds raised will support our mission of providing compassionate, short-term fostering for family dogs and assistance to pet parents needing a little extra support for their furry companions.

Clare’s House was inspired by Uncle Norm, who wanted to adopt a dog, but wondered who would take care of his pup if anything happened to him…

We exist because we believe individuals who encounter temporary medical challenges should not have to worry about their beloved dog, and no dogs should face the anxiety or fear of not being in good, safe homes while their owners are unable to care for them.

We help both the dogs AND their humans. Our vision is to help families keep their beloved pets in their homes for as long as possible. To fully achieve our vision, we are focused on families struggling to keep their beloved pets with them at home. We believe people who are dealing with temporary challenges like hospitalization, injury, physical rehab or illness shouldn’t have to deal with added stress and worry about their beloved pets. Clare’s House steps in and offers helping hands and hope for these owners by providing experienced and caring fostering or dog walking until both owner and furry friend can be safely home together.

We’re not a shelter or a pet sitting service. For the dog, we’re a home…for a day or for a while longer. For the owner, we’re peace of mind when they need it most.

To achieve our mission and vision, we need your help! We always appreciate donations to support our not-for-profit organization. We are also building a network of compassionate volunteers who have space in their homes and hearts to offer temporary fostering of dogs. If you’re interested, please complete an application by clicking on the Get Involved tab on the Clare’s House website. If you have never fostered a dog, we will provide the support you need to make it a successful temporary partnership!

In addition, we have developed the Golden Leash program that offers dog walking services to owners facing injury or mobility challenges and who need help caring for their dogs in their residence. If you would like to be part of the Golden Leash program, please let us know of your interest.

We are extremely excited about what we do, and all the great things on the horizon.

Our Team

Terry Economos (Daisy)

Terry is the founding member of Clare's House and pledges to bring its mission to life. Many furbabies in her life have crossed the rainbow bridge, including Sea Biscuit, Reilly, Kitten, Jerome, Zippy, Brecken, Braye, Daisy, and the love of her life, Roxie. Terry has a MBA and Certified Meeting Planner certification. She had a rewarding 30-year career at Maritz in the Travel and Motivation companies. She was also the General Manager of a successful multi-million dollar IHG property for over 8 years before semi-retiring to devote her time to Clare's House and building the Clare's House team. She is thankful to Uncle Norm for giving her the inspiration for Clare's House, and named the organization after her mother, Clare Ann McGinty, an animal lover who lost her battle with lung cancer. Her motto: "If only humans could have a dog's heart!"

Kim Gee (Amelia and Elizabeth)

is considered more of a crazy cat lady but also loves all the dogs in her life. She is the proud “Gammy” of her grand puppies Remington and Rizzo (and Shelby who has since passed and is missed every day), grand kitties Edie and Cali and most importantly, her two-legged grandson, Sawyer. Kim has been purchasing the personalized PetKids dog biscuits for all her dog friends at Christmas for over 20 years. Kim is an Administrative Assistant at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. She hopes to see the tribute funds grow in support of Clare’s House.

Karen Newberry (Aunt to Bogie and Pepper)

Karen has been a pet parent since childhood, and is especially fond of dogs. During her 45 year career at Maritz Travel Company, Karen gained valuable experience that blends well with advancing the mission of Clare’s House. Karen retired in 2020 and now has more time to pursue her passion of helping animals and their humans. She is assisting pet parents needing the promise of a nurturing home for their dogs either for a while or forever.

Sue Smith (Maisy)

Retiring in 2017 from the events department with a tech company and prior careers with the Department of Defense and then Southwestern Bell, Sue’s rescue pups (Spanky, Shadow, Lucky and currently Maisy) faithfully remain by her side. She has been involved in some sort of volunteer work (as time permitted) from raising funds for an annual community 4th of July celebration to a fundraiser campaign for a 2 year old with a malignant brain tumor. Sue is now able to volunteer with Clare’s House to assist in making life better for furry friends in need.

Lori Schonebaum

Lori may not be a dog owner since her travel hobby frequently takes her away from home, but she is a big dog lover. Lori had a 35+ year career in marketing, communications, and project management before retiring. Some extra free time gives her the wonderful opportunity of helping Clare’s House get the word out about all the amazing things the organization is doing.
